There will be some changes made to Markfolder, which will impact how you interact with the Twitter bookmarking service. These changes are necessary because Twitter has started charging for access to its API.
And the pricing intentionally excludes small businesses like Markfolder.
The price for accessing the Twitter API? US $42,000 per month. Yes, you read that right. 42 large ones. Every. single. month.
I intend to keep Markfolder running, but inevitably, some things will need to change, just so I don’t go bankrupt.
So what’s changing, Farez?
Glad you asked. Some bad, and some good!
Let’s start with the bad:
- Display change (temporarily).
Your bookmarked tweets may have be shown as embedded tweets temporarily. Something like the tweet below. If you are used to viewing saved images in Markfolder, you will feel the pain, as you now have to click through into the original Tweet to view the images. Things will be restored to normal once I’ve found a way around using the Twitter API to extract tweets.

- Deleted tweets will disappear from Markfolder (temporarily).
The above also means that if the original tweet is deleted, it will also be deleted from Markfolder. Temporarily.
- Temporary search interruption.
Search will not return your most recent bookmarks. This is temporary and I will be looking for a workaround.
- Bookmarking by DM will suck.
There will be a delay from when you bookmark to when it goes into your Markfolder account. And bookmarking via DM will now be a PRO feature only, sorry.
What about the good?
Twitter’s new API pricing is like a punch in the gut by a kangaroo on coke. But this has given me renewed determination to make Markfolder more useful than ever.
